Gunmen attack Bauchi Police Station, injure one officer, destroy building- Police

Gunmen on Friday evening attacked a police station in Dass Town, Bauchi State, injuring a police officer and partially destroying the station, the police have said.

The police, however, said the attack failed as the gunmen, who were repelled, were unable to cart away any arms or ammunition, and only 'partially' destroyed the police building.

The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi, Mohammed Ladan, told reporters on Saturday that the attackers were repelled by his men.

Mr. Ladan said that during the face-off with the gunmen, a policeman was shot on the leg.

He said that apart from the wounded policeman the attackers did not succeed in either carting away arms or burning the station.

'The attackers did not take any arms and the building was not burnt but partially destroyed,' he said.

Confirming the attack, Bala Nalado, Information Officer of the Dass Emirate, said that the assailants only managed to pull down parts of the building.

He said that the attackers left without causing serious damages to the building.

The attack is the first incident on police stations in Bauchi in 2013.
