PDP crisis ‘ll not break Nigeria — Gov Orji

BY ANAYO OKOLI

UMUAHIA—ABIA State governor, Chief Theodore Orji, yesterday, declared that the crisis rocking the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would not disintegrate Nigeria, describing it as normal politicking ahead of election year.

According to him, since Nigeria did not disintegrate during the civil war, it will not disintegrate now.

Governor Orji spoke to newsmen after he arrived from Abuja where series of meetings were held by leaders of PDP over the lingering crisis in the party.

Orji said: “Nigeria will not disintegrate. If Nigerian did not disintegrate during the civil war, it cannot disintegrate right now.”

He described the crisis in the party as normal in politics, and expressed the hope that it would soon be resolved, noting that it would even make the party stronger.

Orji said:  “The problem we have in PDP cannot disintegrate Nigeria. The problem we have in PDP is the normal thing you see in politics, especially when campaigns are just by the corner. Some people will find ways of achieving their aim politically.

“The party will overcome the crisis and get stronger. The leaders have the capacity to resolve and overcome the crisis that is why I am sounding positive.”

The governor said the PDP was not worried about what the opposition was doing, stressing that its only concern was to ensure oneness among its members.
Orji also dismissed a suggestion that linked the crisis to religion, saying it was purely political.

“The crisis is purely political, if there is religious colouration, it is minimal, the governor said.
